Residents of a housing estate for civil servants in Ogun State are increasingly alarmed by a recent surge in burglaries, raising urgent calls for government intervention and enhanced security measures.
Alhaji Ibrahim Fatai, secretary of the estate’s Crime Incident Desk (CID), reported that at least 15 homes have been targeted in recent weeks. One suspect was apprehended while trying to sell stolen electrical wiring in the Ajebo area, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
The estate’s management has reached out to the state government, requesting the deployment of Amotekun personnel for additional security.
Comrade Olude Issa, chairman of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria in Ogun State, stressed the importance of ensuring a safe living environment for the predominantly senior civil servant residents.
While previous government initiatives, such as installing solar streetlights and constructing culverts, have been beneficial, residents still face significant security threats. Additionally, the poor condition of the road leading to the estate exacerbates the situation, prompting calls for urgent repairs to prevent further incidents.
The management has formally written to the government regarding road construction, and inspections have already been conducted by teams from the Commissioner of Works.
Residents appreciate the collaborative efforts of community leaders in apprehending suspects, but insist that comprehensive security measures are urgently needed to restore safety in the estate.
