The political arena was thrown into family drama when a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress APC who is the blood brother of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP Candidate, revealed that his half-brother, contesting under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was among those he stood firmly against.
Though they were not on the same ballot, the twist came when the half-brother openly embraced the Progressive cause, joining the voices that ultimately defeated his own blood relative.
Speaking after the election, Oyeleke Oluwole, half-brother to Bolarinwa Oluwole explained that politics, for him, has never been about family ties but about principles.
“We’re the same father, different mother,” he said. “Absolutely, I think politics shouldn’t be a one-way traffic. Having the right to exercise and follow your political will freely is a fundamental right that any citizen has. I have always been a Progressive all my life.”
The PDP candidate, however, was no stranger to political contests. According to his sibling, he has been running for various positions since 2007, including this very seat multiple times.
“So I didn’t expect less,” the winner noted. “But this was a totally free and fair election. People arrived on time, turnout was massive, and voters cast their ballots without any issue.”
He stressed that contrary to allegations, the polls were conducted peacefully. “We didn’t even have to call the police,” he explained.
“They were only there to provide security. Nobody was intimidated, nobody was harassed.” His defense of the process appeared aimed at dismissing rumors that had begun circulating in opposition circles.
Still, his final remarks hinted at more than just political rivalry. “I watched the clip just shaking my head,” he said, referring to his half-brother’s reaction to defeat. “At the same time, I understand the person who couldn’t live up to his own expectations. I just wish him better luck next time.”
With family bonds fractured and ambitions tested, observers believe this battle of brothers could shape political alignments for years to come.
