The Chairman of the four ruling houses entitled to produce the Awujale of Ijebuland, Prince Taheeb Mabadeje Alaga, has appealed to the two factions of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House to reconcile and work together toward a common goal.
Prince Mabadeje, who also serves as Olori-Ebi of the Anikilaya Ruling House, made the appeal in an open letter released to journalists on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, and personally signed by him. The letter, titled “A Candid Appeal To Fusengbuwa Ruling House,” was copied to Prince Adedokun Ajidagba and Chief Lateef Owoyemi, both prominent members of the Fusengbuwa lineage.
In the statement, Prince Mabadeje expressed deep concern over the reported disagreements within the Fusengbuwa family, which is next in line to produce the Awujale following the passing of the late monarch, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who reigned for more than six decades.
He noted that as an elder and custodian of tradition, his only interest at 82 years of age was to preserve unity, peace and harmony within the ruling houses, stressing that no ancestor would rejoice to see his children divided over the revered throne.
“My earnest counsel is that unity must prevail. The Fusengbuwa family is large and richly blessed, and no ancestor would rejoice to see his children divided over a seat of leadership,” he wrote.
Prince Mabadeje urged the Fusengbuwa Ruling House to emulate the peace and dignity that characterised the tenure of the late Awujale, and to present a consensus candidate worthy of the stool.
He further reminded the factions that history would judge the choices made at this critical moment, calling on all stakeholders to put aside personal interests in the collective good of Ijebuland.
“Today’s actions will be tomorrow’s record. May our contributions be remembered for wisdom, not discord,” he appealed.
The elder statesman concluded his letter with a prayer that Almighty Allah would guide the hearts of the Fusengbuwa family toward reconciliation and wisdom in the selection process.
