In a decisive move to safeguard the health of its recruits and uphold training standards, the Ogun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, has dismissed six pregnant female recruits from its training camp. The action follows a routine medical screening conducted on approximately 125 female trainees.
Speaking on the development, the State Corps Commander, Retired Brigadier General Alade Adedigba, explained that the decision was driven by a commitment to the well-being of recruits and the operational integrity of the agency. He noted that the three-week training programme is physically demanding, and participating while pregnant could pose serious health risks, including the possibility of miscarriage or complications leading to deformities.
“The training we conduct is rigorous, and it’s designed to build resilience and operational readiness,” General Adedigba stated. “We cannot, in good conscience, expose any recruit — or unborn child — to unnecessary risk. This step is in line with our broader mission to ensure public safety, beginning with the safety of our own personnel.”
The Corps Commander expressed admiration for the courage and patriotism of the affected women, acknowledging their desire to serve their communities. He emphasized that the agency looks forward to welcoming them back during the next recruitment cycle, once they have safely delivered their babies and are medically fit for training.
“We truly commend their enthusiasm and willingness to join the corps,” he said. “Motherhood is noble, and we stand by them during this important phase of their lives. We look forward to seeing them return stronger and more determined in the future.”
The agency reaffirmed its zero-compromise policy on recruit welfare, stressing that health screenings are a standard protocol aimed at preventing avoidable complications during training. It pledged to continue promoting a secure, disciplined, and professional environment for all its personnel.
