Amosun Mourns Victims of Lagos–Ibadan Expressway Crash, Sympathises with Anthony Joshua

Former Governor of Ogun State and Senator, Ibikunle Amosun, has expressed deep sympathy with world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Oluwafemi Joshua, following a fatal road accident along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

The crash, which occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, reportedly claimed the lives of two members of the boxer’s team, leaving the global sports community in mourning.

In a condolence message released on Monday, Senator Amosun described the incident as painful, saddening and most unfortunate, noting that it serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of human life.

While commiserating with Anthony Joshua over the tragic loss, the former governor thanked God for sparing the boxer’s life during the accident.

“While we mourn this grievous loss, we give thanks to the Almighty God for sparing your life. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult moment,” Amosun said.

He also prayed for Joshua’s quick recovery and for the peaceful repose of the souls of the deceased.

“I wish you a speedy and full recovery, and I pray for the peaceful repose of the departed souls. May the good Lord comfort their families and loved ones, and grant them the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” he added.

Senator Amosun further extended his condolences to the bereaved families as well as the international boxing community, urging them to remain steadfast in the face of the tragedy.
