The Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Hon. Lanre Oyegbola, has initiated a significant campaign aimed at boosting the area’s internally generated revenue (IGR).
This initiative is designed to mitigate revenue leakages and implement effective collection strategies to address the local government’s pressing needs.
During a recent press briefing at his Akomoje office, Oyegbola reaffirmed his dedication to changing the perception of the local government from a rural entity to a vibrant community that delivers democratic benefits to its residents.
The Abeokuta Local Government Secretariat, originally established by former President Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, is undergoing essential revitalization after years without meaningful upgrades. With support from the Ogun State government, improvements are actively being made.
Following an inspection of the government compound, Hon. Oyegbola highlighted that the redesigned IGR mechanism will finance these enhancements. He also mentioned that over sixty-seven loopholes that permitted revenue misappropriation have now been closed, with the Vice Chairman appointed to oversee the new revenue generation process.
Additionally, plans are in place to repair roads within the local government area, eliminate open defecation, and address various critical issues to foster development.
