The President of Abeokuta Club, Dr. Adewale Adeola, has disowned a purported private meeting scheduled to hold at the club with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, on Sunday, October 25, 2026, declaring that the organisation is unaware of the arrangement.
Adeola, in a statement issued on Saturday, stressed that the reported meeting was separate from the club’s planned engagement with governorship aspirants ahead of the 2027 election.
He explained that the club, at its September 2026 general meeting, received an interim report from the Egba Development Committee, presented by its chairman, Lawyer Adebayo Ayodele, which recommended a town hall meeting involving interest groups across the six local government areas of Egbaland.
According to him, the proposed gathering is intended to provide a platform for stakeholders to deliberate on the development priorities of Egbaland and present the Egba Development Plan Document covering 2027 to 2037 to governorship aspirants.
Adeola said those expected to be invited include Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Hon. Ladi Adebutu, among others.
He disclosed that the proposed town hall meeting had been scheduled for the third week of November 2026.
The Abeokuta Club president reiterated that the organisation is non-partisan and committed to the development of Egbaland, irrespective of political affiliations.
He therefore maintained that the purported private meeting with Adebutu scheduled for Sunday, October 25, was unknown to the club.
The clarification comes as political activities gather momentum in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 governorship election, with aspirants and political parties stepping up consultations with stakeholders.
In the statement signed electronically, Adeola reiterated that the November town hall meeting was the initiative recognised by the club for engaging governorship aspirants on the development agenda of Egbaland.
