Former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has described the death of renowned Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, as the end of an era, acknowledging his enduring contributions to education, democratic governance and the development of Yorubaland.

Amosun, in a condolence message issued by his media office on Wednesday, said the death of the elder statesman, who reportedly passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at the age of 100, was a great loss to his family, the Afenifere organisation, Ondo State, Yorubaland and Nigeria as a whole.

He described Fasoranti as a committed advocate of good governance, true federalism and social justice, noting that his lifelong dedication to the progress of the Yoruba people and the unity and development of Nigeria would remain indelible in the nation’s history.

The former governor also recalled Fasoranti’s commitment to the progressive political philosophy of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, saying the Afenifere leader upheld the ideals of integrity, selfless service, social welfare and accountable leadership throughout his life.

Amosun further highlighted Fasoranti’s contributions to education and public administration, recalling his years as a teacher and school principal, as well as his service as Commissioner for Finance in the old Ondo State between 1979 and 1983.

While noting that Fasoranti’s death marked the end of an era, Amosun said his exemplary life, firm convictions and contributions to humanity would continue to inspire generations.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of the departed elder statesman and asked God to grant his family, the Afenifere family and others mourning his death the strength to bear the loss.
