Ogun Education Commissioner Urges Teachers to Embrace Meticulous Use of AI-Powered ‘OgunLEARN

ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, has called on educators across the state to exercise diligence and precision in deploying OgunLEARN, the state’s flagship AI-powered teaching and learning platform.

Speaking in Abeokuta while receiving a delegation from the Ethical Artificial Intelligence in Education Advocate group, Prof. Arigbabu emphasized that while the government encourages the integration of technology in the classroom, its application must be handled with professional caution to ensure it serves its intended purpose effectively.

Prof. Arigbabu highlighted that OgunLEARN is a bespoke digital solution, meticulously tailored to the Nigerian curriculum and the specific socio-cultural experiences of local learners. Developed by Ogun State’s own educators, the platform aims to Provide high-quality digital lesson notes to both urban and rural schools.Drastically reduce administrative paperwork, allowing teachers to focus on student engagement, Offer real-time insights to administrators and policymakers to help improve statewide educational outcomes.

“We have provided an AI-powered tool to make knowledge transfer seamless. However, as we encourage its use, we must also stress the need for caution. It must be used positively and precisely for its intended educational goals,” the Commissioner advised.

The Commissioner praised the Ethical AI Advocate group for their professionalism and commitment to supporting secondary school teachers. He noted that their efforts align perfectly with the state administration’s vision of a tech-driven educational sector.

Echoing these sentiments, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko, described the researchers as “passionate professionals” whose doggedness has earned them accolades at local, national, and international levels. She urged them to continue mentoring other educators to ensure no teacher is left behind in this digital transition.

In his response, the Lead Researcher, Mr. Owolabi Adelano, commended the Governor Dapo Abiodun-led Administration for its revolutionary strides in digitalizing education. He pledged the group’s commitment to training teachers who are not yet ICT-compliant.

“Our goal is to guide every educator toward proficiency, ensuring that the digitalization of our schools leads to a truly seamless and superior learning experience for every child in Ogun State,” Mr. Adelano stated.
