A police officer attached to the Obantoko Police Division in Abeokuta was left injured after being struck by a hit-and-run driver while on duty.

The incident involved a Toyota vehicle allegedly travelling at high speed, which rammed into officers conducting a stop-and-search operation directly in front of the Obantoko Police Station.
The vehicle hit Officer Komolafe Gbenga, causing injuries.
In the chaos that followed, the same vehicle also collided with a commercial taxi bearing registration number JGB 553XB.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:00 p.m. on Sunday evening, February 15, 2025.
Eyewitnesses reported that passers-by quickly intervened, pursuing the fleeing vehicle until it was eventually stopped. The driver was subsequently apprehended.
The Toyota vehicle, with registration number GGE 919KH, has been impounded and is currently parked at the Obantoko Divisional Police Station, while the injured officer has been taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the circumstances surrounding the crash.
