The Lagos State Police Command has announced the arrest of John Samuel, a 28-year-old ex-convict and notorious armed robbery kingpin, who was behind the brazen gold jewellery attack on Allen Avenue, Ikeja.
Samuel, who is also linked to cases of assassination and murder, was tracked and arrested in his Epe hideout on Friday, September 19, 2025, at about 2:00 p.m.
Police investigations revealed that Samuel, barely a month after his release from prison for armed robbery, shot and wounded businessman Gbenga Obama on August 18, 2025, before robbing him of an expensive gold necklace and other valuables in broad daylight.
CCTV footage captured the moment the suspect fired at the victim with an English pistol, while his accomplice waited on a motorcycle for their escape.
Samuel confessed to selling the stolen jewellery for ₦4 million.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohudare Jimoh, commended the operatives for the breakthrough and assured Lagosians of their safety, warning criminals that the state has no hiding place for them.
