As schools across Ogun State prepare to resume for the 2025/2026 Academic Session, the state government says it is fully ready to ensure a smooth start.
In the build-up to resumption, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu has met with various stakeholders in the sector, including parents’ associations, old students’ groups, and school administrators, to gather feedback and remind them of key government policies.
The government emphasized that no child should be denied access to education or deprived of the opportunity to remain in school on account of fees.
Authorities also used the opportunity to highlight ongoing interventions in the education sector, which include the construction of new classrooms, provision of desks and chairs, and the rehabilitation of several infrastructures to make learning more conducive.
Private school owners were specifically cautioned not to see themselves as being above regulation. The commissioner reminded them that government remains their regulator and expects strict compliance with all guidelines.
He warned that any school found flouting directives would be sanctioned, including the possibility of being sealed off. He further stressed that both public and private schools must not operate multiple uniforms, as such practices are against policy.
The government also reemphasized its ban on lavish graduation ceremonies, restricting them only to pupils moving from Primary Six, JSS 3, and SS 3, and insisting that such celebrations must remain modest.
In addition, schools were reminded that no textbook should be changed until it has run a full six-year cycle, in order to reduce the financial burden on parents.
With these measures in place, the state government says it is committed to ensuring quality, accessible, and affordable education for all.
