The All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a commanding early lead in the Remo Federal Constituency by-election as results continue to trickle in from the three local governments that make up the constituency.
Tension rose at the collation center as the Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) began releasing figures from two of the councils.
From Ikenne Local Government, APC secured a landslide, polling 10,227 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) trailed with 5,595. The results drew applause from party loyalists, who said the figures reflect the people’s confidence in the ruling party.
It was also a clean sweep for APC in Remo North, where the party’s candidate garnered 8,052 votes compared to PDP’s 992. Observers at the center described the margin as “unprecedented,” noting that the opposition appeared to have lost its grip on the constituency.
The only outstanding result is from Sagamu Local Government. However, the Returning Officer, Professor Kazeem Bello, announced a brief recess, explaining that they were awaiting the arrival of the collation officer from the area before proceeding with the final tally.
With APC’s candidate, Princess Adesola Ayoola Elegbeji, already coasting to victory with a wide margin, party supporters are upbeat that her formal declaration as winner of the by-election is only a matter of time.
All eyes are now on Sagamu, where the last figures will either seal the triumph or spark a surprise twist.
