The Ogun State High Court has issued a stern warning to suspended traditional ruler, Olugbenga Somade, the deposed Akufon of Idarika,Iperu- Remo, Ogun State ordering him to stop parading himself as a monarch in defiance of a court order.
Justice S. O. Oloyede, presiding over High Court 2 in Sagamu on Tuesday, August 14, 2025, cautioned Somade against further acts of contempt after reports emerged that he had been attending public events in royal regalia and presenting himself as the Akufon — despite his removal from the throne.
Representing the plaintiffs, Dr. Dada Awosika (SAN) accused Somade of “blatantly undermining the court’s authority” and urged the judge to impose consequences.
While Justice Oloyede urged restraint by asking lawyers to withdraw all pending applications — including one seeking to commit Somade to prison — he reminded the embattled former monarch to “conduct himself like a gentleman” and respect the dignity of the court.
The case was adjourned to September 23, 2025, for a pre-trial conference, with the judge making it clear that any further acts of defiance would be taken seriously.
