Ijebu Ode, Ogun State – Former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Thursday paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, at the Ogbagba Court residence in Ijebu Ode.
The revered monarch passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the age of 91, the same day former President Muhammadu Buhari died.
Amosun, who was warmly received by members of the royal family, extolled the virtues of the late monarch, describing him as a symbol of dedication, courage, and service to his people. He congratulated the Ijebu people for the historic reign of their king, who sat on the throne for 65 years—making him Africa’s longest-reigning monarch.
“There are many lessons to draw from Kabiyesi’s life. He was consistent, principled, and always stood for what he believed was right,” Amosun said after signing the condolence register. “Kabiyesi was not only a father to Ijebuland and Ogun State, but also a strong voice in defence of Yoruba interests across Nigeria.”
Following the tribute, the senator joined members of the family in a solemn inspection of the monarch’s tomb, where prayers were offered for the repose of his soul and continued peace in Ijebuland.
Amosun later visited the GRA residence of the late Oba, where he met with the Oloris and other members of the family, who expressed gratitude for his show of solidarity and long-standing support.
Oba Sikiru Adetona’s passing marks the end of an era, as tributes continue to pour in from across the nation in honour of the iconic traditional ruler.
