In a significant move for Nigeria’s digital economy, the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy has partnered with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to launch “AI Scale Up Nigeria,” a $7.5 million initiative focused on enhancing artificial intelligence (AI) adoption across vital sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, and education.
The announcement was made by Minister Bosun Tijani during a meeting with Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and members of the Gates Foundation team in Abuja. Tijani described the meeting as productive, highlighting the importance of connectivity and AI in shaping Nigeria’s future.
“We concluded with a historic agreement to establish AI Scale Up Nigeria, backed by $7.5 million in funding and expertise,” Tijani stated. He emphasized the initiative’s potential to significantly impact everyday Nigerians in crucial areas.
The Minister expressed gratitude for the collaboration, reinforcing Nigeria’s commitment to not just adopting new technologies but also shaping them to be meaningful and inclusive for its citizens.
