The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has collaborated with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) National Secretariat to tackle drug abuse among students.
Specifically, the NDLEA Lagos Zonal Commander, Dr. Segun Oke played host to the executive members of NANS who were on a solidarity visit to the command to address this issue. This partnership aims to prevent drug abuse and promote a safer and healthier environment for students across the country.
He described the students as the right instrument that NDLEA could employ to broadcast the campaign against the abuse of drug in the society.
The NDLEA Commander, described drug abuse as a major problem affecting the youths population in the country and beyond; hence there is a need to join hands in curbing the menace. He added that the abuse of drugs is a consequential problem that we cannot shy away from as long as the society is increasing.
“Effective communication is needed and NANS is also a critical stakeholder in the sensitization of the students and the youths”, he stressed.
The Clerk of the Senate, NANS Headquarters, Senator Comrade Oladimeji Uthman called on stakeholders in the crusade against drug abuse, to organise anti-drug walk/campaign across campuses to enlighten students on the dangers inherent in drug abuse.
He described the partnership between the two parties as a “must, a bold step and an excellent medium” to ensure a drug-free community in the society.
This collaboration signifies a crucial stride towards fostering a drug-free environment on campuses and empowering students to resist the allure of drug abuse, he said.
He also commended NDLEA for ensuring the healthy living among the people through the arrest of drug dealers and destruction of illicit drugs.
Uthman expressed optimism that the partnership would “strengthen and crown the efforts of the students body in making campuses free from drug abuse and illicit trafficking.”

“The collaboration with NDLEA Lagos Zonal Command exemplifies the proactive approach taken by the national students leadership to curb the prevalence of drug abuse among her members, he said”.
We are also planning to organize a national summit against Drug Abuse to commemorate the 2024 International Day against Drug Abuse and we will invite the NDLEA to help educate and reorientate our students at the event, he concluded.
