The Progressives Youth Wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has issued a stern warning to Governor Dapo Abiodun, accusing him of spearheading a desperate campaign to drive former Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD), out of the party.
In a statement released in Abeokuta on Sunday, the group alleged that Governor Abiodun has been orchestrating a series of targeted attacks against Daniel, including threats to demolish his residence and hotel, a purported suspension from the party, and the circulation of false narratives aimed at smearing his image. The youths described the governor’s actions as part of a larger scheme to edge Daniel out of the APC and clear the path for Abiodun’s unchallenged bid for the Ogun East senatorial ticket in the next election.
They further warned that intelligence at their disposal points to plans by the governor to sponsor rented protests and even instigate violent attacks on Daniel’s properties. “We have it on good authority that assaults and arson are being plotted against OGD’s properties. Security agencies must take note — Ogun cannot descend into political violence driven by one man’s desperation,” the statement declared.
Reaffirming their loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC, the Progressives Youth Wing insisted that Daniel’s legacy as a financier of NADECO and defender of democracy during the June 12 struggle cannot be erased. “OGD cannot and will not be driven out of APC. He is a founding pillar, a democrat, and a statesman. Any attempt to destroy him is an attempt to weaken the progressive family in Ogun and in Nigeria. Governor Abiodun should retrace his steps and focus on delivering meaningful development from the state’s trillion-naira budget,” the group concluded.
