The Akinlade/Ogundele Political Group has formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for a second term in office and Governor Dapo Abiodun, CON, for the Ogun East Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was announced in a statement jointly signed by the leaders of the group, Hon. Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade and Hon. Sikirulal Ogundele, PhD, after what they described as a careful review of the performance of the Tinubu-led administration.
According to the group, President Tinubu’s leadership has been marked by “bold economic reforms, strong investment in infrastructure, the introduction of the student loan scheme to support young Nigerians, and expanded social welfare programmes for entrepreneurs and ordinary citizens,” which they said demonstrate “clear leadership and genuine commitment to national progress.”
The group also praised Governor Dapo Abiodun’s stewardship of Ogun State, noting that his administration has delivered “visible and impactful development” over the last six years. These, they said, include major road infrastructure upgrades, improved healthcare services, enhanced inter-local government connectivity, and the construction of a world-class airport that has elevated Ogun State’s economic profile.
“We wish to state categorically that it is not only fair, but proper, for a performing, committed and loyal sitting governor to have the first right of refusal for the senatorial ticket,” the statement read. The group added that Abiodun’s role as Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum and his handling of key party assignments underscore his loyalty and value to the party.
Describing the governor as “a reliable and bold party man,” the group expressed confidence that Abiodun would bring experience, stability and strong leadership to the National Assembly if elected in 2027.
“At this critical point in Nigeria’s history, the nation needs leaders with proven capacity, global reach and deep understanding of national geopolitics,” the statement said, adding that a Senator Dapo Abiodun would strengthen party unity, enrich legislative processes and attract development to Ogun East and the state at large.
The Akinlade/Ogundele Political Group reaffirmed its “unwavering support” for the re-election of President Tinubu and Governor Abiodun’s senatorial ambition, pledging to mobilize members and supporters across Ogun State during both the party primaries and the general elections.
