ABEOKUTA – A significant majority of the Ogun State House of Assembly has formally thrown its weight behind a second term for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the 2027 gubernatorial ambition of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as “Yayi.”
In a statement released by 16 out of the 26 honorable members, the “Progressive Lawmakers” reaffirmed their alignment with the Ogun State APC’s earlier endorsement of the President. The group cited Tinubu’s “bold economic reforms” and “unprecedented infrastructural development” as the primary drivers for their support.
The lawmakers lauded the President’s efforts in repositioning the national economy, specifically highlighting: Fiscal Reforms: Strategic steps toward economic stabilization and fiscal responsibility.
Infrastructure: Massive road construction projects connecting vital economic corridors across the country.Consolidation: The need for a second term to ensure the gains of the current administration are fully realized and sustained.
Turning their attention to the state’s 2027 leadership, the lawmakers declared their “unalloyed support” for Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola to succeed the incumbent governor.
Describing Adeola as a “seasoned legislator,” the members pointed to his track record in the National Assembly and his leadership in critical committees as evidence of his competence. They expressed confidence that his experience in governance and oversight makes him the ideal candidate to advance the “Igbega Ipinle Ogun” agenda.
The caucus also addressed the future of the incumbent Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun. As he approaches the final years of his tenure, the 16 lawmakers pledged to support his “next political move,” whatever that may be.
“Governor Abiodun’s wealth of executive experience and deep understanding of governance would continue to be of immense value in whatever capacity he chooses to serve,” the statement read.
By reaffirming their commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ideals, the lawmakers signaled a unified front aimed at maintaining the party’s dominance in Ogun State and the national stage.
